For over 20 months we have been living in a world disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic, yet in the midst of the unknown, God’s grace continues to point us to life abundant. In our sorrow and in our joy, we turn to our sacred scripture and remember God’s faithfulness and the covenant that binds us to the Lord. As the waters rose and swallowed the earth, Noah, his family, and a few animals floated into the unknown, waiting for God to reveal a new beginning for them.

God said, “This is the sign of the covenant that I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for all future generations: I have set my bow in the clouds, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and the earth.”
Genesis 9:12-13)

As the waters receded and the earth dried, Noah’s dove finally returned with a freshly plucked olive leaf; their new beginning had arrived! God’s earth once again sprouted and provided for God’s people. We, too, know that a new beginning is at hand. We wait for this pandemic to end. We wait for our new senior pastor, Mark Curtis, to arrive. We wait, but we also actively wait by working to continue the mission and legacy given to us here in the heart of Knoxville.

As we begin our season of stewardship, we are called to embrace these new beginnings by reaffirming God’s blessings in our lives and committing anew to serving as Christ in the heart of Knoxville. Opportunities to embrace the future with creativity and newness as we emerge into the light of a post-pandemic world brings excitement and unknown possibilities. Let us seek new beginnings together by recommitting to being faithful stewards.

Prayerfully consider what God is asking you to do. How does God want you to use your resources to further God’s work through FPC? How can your gift be an act of worship at FPC?

Thank you for your continued support of the ministry at First Presbyterian Church.
