Music is an integral part of worship at First Presbyterian Church. The Chancel Choir leads the congregation in the singing of hymns and proclaims in song the Word of God through anthems chosen primarily from the traditional/classical repertoire. Music is chosen specifically to illumine the scripture passages for each week often taken from the Common Lectionary (readings posted above on this page). The music of worship furthers the prayer life of the church as well as helping us meet our Lord.
The Chancel Choir, college-adults, rehearsal (7:30pm-8:30pm) – The Chancel Choir leads in worship each Sunday and for seasonal worship services, sings in the various offerings of the Music at First Church Series, and participates annually in the Knoxville Opera Company’s Rossini Festival. Considered to be one of the most outstanding choirs in the region, the choir is comprised of both volunteers and professional musicians. Past invitations of merit include singing for the 2006 and 2008 Piccolo Spoleto Festival and conferences and conventions of both the American Guild of Organists and the American Choral Directors Association.
