The Handbell Ensemble, open to High School and adult ringers, rings frequently from August to May of each year. In addition to ringing in worship and for special music events, each year they participate in the Knox Area Handbell Festival. They have been selected to ring as a part of the national bellringing ceremony, “Let Freedom Ring,” leading to a couple of television performances on the popular Knoxville show, Live at Five. The ensemble has also rung for other area venues including Christmas in the City and First Night-a New Year’s Eve Celebration. In November 2010, members of the Handbell Ensemble will ring at Knoxville’s Fantasy of Trees. The church owns two sets of handbells including both a three-octave and a five-octave set of Malmark bells, allowing for most positions to be doubled. A three-octave set of Malmark Choirchimes complements the bells.
The handbell ensemble is under the direction of Mr. Tim Lett, a member of the church who has over twenty-five years experience as a ringer and director. He, along with organist/choirmaster Ashley Burell, provide instruction to ringers from beginning to advanced levels. Mr. Lett and Mr. Burell are instrumental in the organization of each year’s Knox Area Handbell Festival.
The First Ringers includes ringers, grades 6-8. They ring periodically in worship. The ensemble is under the direction of Greg Efurd.
