Andy Morgan Writes on AI and Relationships in Quarterly Journal The Journal for Preachers
We're excited to share that Director of Family Faith Formation, Andy Morgan, has been published in the latest issue of The Journal for Preachers, a quarterly publication dedicated to the craft of preaching through biblical interpretation and social analysis.
Andy’s article, titled "Choosing the Inefficiency of Relationships: Preaching Easter Hope in a World Augmented by Artificial Intelligence," explores the tension between our increasingly efficient technological world and the deeply relational, often inefficient way of Christ. Through a blend of humor and thoughtful critique, Andy argues that while AI and large language models (LLMs) can be helpful tools, they risk eroding the very human connections we’re called to cultivate.
Drawing from his regular teaching and seminars on AI and the church—including upcoming sessions for the Office of Faith Formation and Princeton Theological Seminary—Andy offers a powerful reminder: real love and transformation happen in the inefficiency of relationship. Just as God chose the slow, relational path of incarnation to redeem humanity, the church today is invited to resist the idol of efficiency and reclaim space for authentic connection, even in an AI-driven world.
As Andy puts it:
"Human relationships are more important than any efficiencies technology can offer."
