Why Storytelling Matters: A Powerful Worshipful Wednesday. Check out Chuck Morris's story below!
This past Worshipful Wednesday was a memorable evening of storytelling, and we are grateful for the way our church family gathered to listen, reflect, and be encouraged. Through their stories, we were reminded that God is at work in both the ordinary and extraordinary moments of our lives at First Presbyterian.
Our storytellers, Sherry Corden, Chuck Morris, Luke Sowards, Gary Anderson, Abby Prevost, and Katie Norrell, each shared brief reflections that spoke to growth, resilience, and the steady presence of God along the way. Together, their voices created a powerful picture of how faith is lived out across generations and experiences within our congregation.
Chuck Morris’s story, In Praise of Quiet Mercies, was especially moving. Drawing from John 1 and the long history of First Presbyterian Church, Chuck reflected on how this congregation has practiced “grace upon grace” through faithfulness, presence, and care across generations. He connected the church’s story with his own journey, arriving as a young UT student, wandering through seasons of ambition and loss, and eventually returning to find the same steady, prayerful presence waiting for him. His story reminded us that even when we are absent or unsure, the church continues to hold space, breathe prayers, and offer quiet mercies that gather over time. You can read Chuck’s full reflection at the link below.
In the coming weeks, we will feature each storyteller’s reflection in our newsletter so that the wider congregation can continue to engage with these stories and the faith they reveal.
Thank you to everyone who joined us and to those who shared so openly. We look forward to continuing this practice of storytelling and listening together.
