Youth Spotlight: BK Kisubi
We recently caught up with BK Kisubi and heard all about his latest adventures and future plans after graduation. BK, a recent graduate of Lincoln High School in Manitowoc, Wisconsin, is currently living with his family in Manitowoc. He enjoys spending time with friends and works at both Papa John’s and a local movie theater. He likes working at Papa John’s because it reminds him of his favorite restaurant back in Knoxville—South Coast Pizza. He also loves his job at the theater, where he gets to talk with people about movies that he likes. BK regularly attends church with his girlfriend, continuing to live out his faith in community.
Originally from Congo, BK came to the United States as a child. He joined the Pennoyer family in his childhood and teens before moving to Wisconsin in 2023 to live with his aunt and grandmother. His time at First Presbyterian Church has left a lasting mark on our community—he is a much loved member of the Pennoyer family and known and cherished by so many in Knoxville.
This fall, BK is heading to the University of Wisconsin–Green Bay, where he plans to study Communications and Broadcasting, with a special interest in sports media. A passionate fan of basketball and football, BK is drawn not only to the game itself, but also to the human stories behind the athletes—their journeys, the challenges they've faced, and what they've overcome to reach where they are today. He hopes to highlight their full humanity through storytelling, whether in front of a camera or behind it, using photography or broadcasting.
BK is also considering a future in teaching. He has a natural connection with elementary-aged children and enjoys being a joyful and positive presence in their lives—someone who makes them feel seen and encouraged.
Excited for this new chapter, BK is looking forward to meeting his new roommate, diving into campus life, and starting his classes in Green Bay.
Among his favorite memories at First Presbyterian are giving a reflection during his confirmation service about faith, love, and trusting God in hard times. He likes public speaking and is interested in exploring and talking about how to trust God during life’s difficult moments—especially in times of loss, such as the unexpected death of a loved one. BK also loved participating in the Christmas Pageant each year, where he proudly took on the role of a Wise Man, along with several other meaningful characters, bringing joy and energy to our annual Christmas production.
BK hopes to make the world better by telling stories that uplift and inspire people—sharing the humanity behind each person’s journey and helping communities grow in understanding and empathy.
