Hanging of the Greens

On Sunday, November 30, we will celebrate the beginning of Advent with a special Hanging of the Greens during both morning worship services. This meaningful tradition invites us to prepare our worship spaces – and our lives – for the coming of the Christ Child.

On this first Sunday of Advent, in addition to celebrating the Sacrament of Communion, we will decorate the Sanctuary and Chapel with poinsettias, garlands, wreaths, and lights, and place Chrismons upon the Chrismon Tree. Throughout the service, each symbol of the season will be introduced with a brief reflection on its meaning, a Scripture reading, and a hymn. Members of the congregation will be invited to take part in the “hanging” of the greens as we join our hands, voices, and hearts in welcoming the season of Advent.

The Flower Guild will provide the beautiful greens that will fill our church – inside and out – with signs of hope, peace, joy, and love. Come and share in this joyful beginning to the Advent season – a celebration for all ages.
