In September 2024, members of the Flower Guild traveled to Bear Creek Farm in Kingsport, Tennessee, for a day filled with beauty, fellowship, and gratitude. Bear Creek Farm, a small-batch flower and pumpkin farm owned by Lisa and Bob Rogers, brother and sister-in-law of First Presbyterian member Malcolm Rogers, graciously welcomed the group for a special harvest experience.
The day began with gathering armloads of seasonal blooms, including dahlias, hydrangeas, and other late-summer flowers. These flowers would later be shared with members of the congregation, incorporated into worship arrangements, and used to decorate the memorial service for Sarah Searle.
The outing provided much more than flowers. Guild members enjoyed a picnic lunch with the Rogers family, toured the farm's bee hives, learned about the art of beekeeping, and harvested their own jars of honey. Surrounded by the beauty of the East Tennessee countryside and the abundance of God's creation, friendships were strengthened and memories were made.
For those who attended, it was a day marked by joy, gratitude, and community. As one Flower Guild member reflected, it was simply “a holy and magical day.”
