Doing Justice, Together: A Presbytery Gathering for Prayer, Discernment, and Faithful Response
Doing Justice, Together was a powerful gathering hosted by the Presbytery of East Tennessee on Wednesday, February 4, at Second Presbyterian Church. Clergy, staff, church members, and church leaders came together for prayer and conversation about how the Church is called to respond faithfully to the challenges of our time.
The gathering opened with Scripture and prayer led by General Presbyter Wendy Neff, who read from 1 John 4:16–21, grounding the conversation in the reminder that God is love and that love, not fear, guides our life together.
Participants reflected on current realities affecting vulnerable communities, particularly immigrants and refugees. The conversation emphasized clear communication within congregations, leadership support, and collaboration across churches and trusted partners. The Presbytery agreed to develop a shared resource sheet to help churches respond faithfully to specific situations involving refugees, and Bridge Refugee Services was highlighted as a key local partner. Attendees were encouraged to engage the devotional For Such a Time as This by Hanna Reichel as a devotion guiding this work.
In the weeks ahead, the church will share practical ways to help through Bridge Refugee Services and other trusted organizations. As Scripture reminds us, “whenever we have the opportunity, let us work for the good of all” (Galatians 6:10). Please stay tuned to upcoming communications for opportunities to learn more and take part in this shared work.
