Honor the Mothers in Your Life with Gifts from the Mission Market

Mother’s Day is a special opportunity to celebrate the women who have shaped our lives with care, strength, and love. It’s also a chance to support women around the world who are doing that same work for their families every day.

In many communities, women farmers and artisans carry the responsibility of providing for their households. Through our fair trade Mission Market, we’re able to support their work by offering a place for their goods to be shared and purchased, helping contribute to the health, education, and well-being of their children.

As you look for a gift this Mother’s Day, you’ll find a wide range of handcrafted items, including ceramics from the West Bank and Vietnam, baskets from Uganda, and fashion accessories from Peru, Cambodia, and India. Each piece reflects the skill and care of the person who made it.

We’re also grateful to introduce jewelry by Sonam Sharify from Afghanistan. Sonam previously led a USAID program that trained Afghan women in clerical skills, while also running her own dressmaking business. When the Taliban took control, those opportunities were no longer possible.

Through the Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) program, Sonam, her husband Abdul, and their two children were able to relocate to Knoxville. Sonam continues her work through sewing and alterations, and Abdul is currently seeking steady work in construction.

The Mission Market is a way to support women like Sonam, while also finding a thoughtful and meaningful gift. Each purchase carries a story, one of resilience, skill, and care for family.

We hope you’ll stop by and find something that honors the mothers in your life while also supporting the work of women around the world.
