Welcome to our new Interim Organist/Choirmaster, Scott Scheetz!
We are excited to welcome Scott Scheetz as our Interim Organist and Choirmaster beginning Sunday, August 3.
Scott brings a rich and varied background in church music, with over a decade of experience in both liturgical and non-liturgical settings. A native of Aiken, South Carolina, Scott most recently served as the Associate Director of Music and Organist at Christ United Methodist Church in Plano, Texas. He and his wife, Katie—who now serves as Organist and Associate Director of Music at Church Street UMC in downtown Knoxville—moved to East Tennessee in May.
Scott began playing piano at the age of three and discovered the pipe organ by the time he was eight. That early passion for music led him to earn a Bachelor of Music in Organ Performance from the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University and a Master of Sacred Music from the Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University.
His musical talents are as diverse as his interests—Scott plays organ, piano, guitar, bass guitar, percussion, baroque recorder, and handbells, and he has performed in a wide range of ensembles from Dixieland and jazz trios to progressive rock and Big Band music groups. In addition to his work in music ministry, he has tuned and serviced pipe organs, rebuilt vintage keyboards and electronics, and even enjoys restoring pinball machines and cars. He’s also a skilled photographer, specializing in automotive, portrait, and event photography.
Now settling into a home in Louisville, just 20 minutes from Knoxville, Scott says he’s enjoying the peace and quiet of East Tennessee after the pace of the Dallas/Fort Worth area. He’s excited to make music with our congregation—across generations and styles—as we glorify God together through worship.
Please join us in giving Scott a warm First Presbyterian welcome!
