Let's ensure that immigrant and refugee families in Knoxville have plenty of nourishing, familiar foods at home!
On Sept. 10-19, First Presbyterian will host a food drive for culturally diverse, non-perishable staples for immigrants and refugees. The action is particularly needed now, as non-US citizens no longer receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits. Today many immigrant and refugee families, including elderly people and children, face food insecurity. To get the list of recommended foods, click here.
Our drive, conducted in partnership with Bridge Refugee Services, will fill families' cupboards with the staples to make familiar, healthy meals. The staples are readily available in local grocery stores. Please bring your purchases to the Fellowship Hall anytime Sept 10-19 and drop them into the designated box.
On Sunday, Sept. 10, Peter Green, Bridge Volunteer & Co-Sponsorship Manager, will give the Minute for Mission during worship.
The food drive is one way we will participate with Bridge Refugee Services in Welcoming Week, when organizations and communities nationwide bring together neighbors of all backgrounds to build strong connections and learn the needs of refugees and immigrants. As part of the week, anyone interested in being a Bridge volunteer can receive help signing up.
