Flower Guild at First Presbyterian

With beauty and care, preparing sacred spaces for the glory of God

Beauty in Worship: The Ministry of the Flower Guild

The Flower Guild of First Presbyterian Church has, since its founding in the late 1970s, faithfully offered their creativity and devotion to enrich our worship through beauty. What began as a small group of dedicated members has grown into a beautiful and purposeful ministry, where arrangements are lovingly created each week for the Sanctuary, Chapel, and special services. Through memorials, honoraria, and the hands of both seasoned and new members, each arrangement becomes an expression of faith and a gift to the congregation.

Beyond Sunday worship, the Flower Guild extends care to those who are hospitalized, grieving, or celebrating life’s milestones, embodying Christ’s love through quiet acts of service. Today, under thoughtful leadership, the Guild continues to bring beauty, order, and intentionality to our spaces, reminding us that worship engages not only our hearts and minds, but also our senses.

We are deeply grateful for the Flower Guild and the many ways they help create an atmosphere of reverence and joy, pointing us to the beauty of God in every season.

“Consider how the wild flowers grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these.” — Luke 12:27

“The flowers were simple yet elegant…fresh yet timeless. But even more than its aesthetic appeal, I was struck by the emotional impact of this little bouquet. How heartbreaking I thought that it would only last a day or two before fading away. And then I realized the magic: it was precisely because of its temporary presence that the bouquet's beauty was enhanced. Like a metaphor for life, the bouquet was a reminder to celebrate beauty and live fully in the present.”

PRAYER IN THE FLOWER ROOM

Dear Heavenly Father,
We thank you for this time when we renew as a Guild and gather in fellowship. As we pause to reflect on life’s uncertainties inspire our hearts and keep us ever mindful of the needs of others. We are grateful for the bounty of the season and its beauty from the garden bestowed by You. Bless the word of our hands on the Guild that our talents may be to Your Glory. Amen.
