Flower Arrangement Stories

Every Arrangement Tells a Story

One of the most important things to understand about the Flower Guild is that its arrangements are never simply decorative. Each arrangement tells a story. Through flowers, colors, textures, and symbolism, Guild members seek to deepen worship and connect the congregation to the rich traditions and stories of the church.

Sometimes arrangements reflect the liturgical season, celebrating the joy of Easter, the anticipation of Advent, or the solemnity of Lent. At other times, they honor a loved one whose life is being remembered, incorporating favorite flowers, colors, or elements that reflect that person's story and spirit. Guild members have also created arrangements that celebrate the Presbyterian Church's Scottish heritage, the unique history of First Presbyterian Church, and beloved congregational traditions, including the church's famous turnip. Whether drawing from scripture, church history, the natural world, or the lives of members, each arrangement serves as a visual expression of faith.

In many ways, the Flower Guild functions as a ministry of storytelling. Their work invites worshipers to see God's presence in beauty, symbolism, memory, and creation, reminding us that flowers can speak in ways words sometimes cannot.
