A Badge of Welcome: Honoring Heritage and Hospitality for Dr. Amy-Jill Levine

In April 2025, First Presbyterian Church was honored to host renowned New Testament scholar Dr. Amy-Jill Levine as the guest lecturer for Presbyterian Women's Laura Pettway Series. For the occasion, Flower Guild Chair Holli Rogers designed and created distinctive badges for the hosts and hostesses who welcomed guests throughout the three-day event.

The badge design reflected both First Presbyterian's Scottish heritage and a spirit of thoughtful stewardship. Palm crosses from previous Palm Sunday services were carefully repurposed, while the plaid ribbon was selected from Holli's mother's treasured sewing collection. The only materials purchased were blooms of Scotland's native thistle, creating a meaningful connection to the church's roots while embodying the creativity and resourcefulness that have long characterized the Flower Guild.
