Dr. Elizabeth "Ebby" Arnold, Scholar in Residence at The Candler Foundry, speaker at Summer Sunday School at First Presbyterian
We are excited to gather together this summer for Sunday School and to spend time learning, reflecting, and growing in faith as a community.
Summer Sunday School begins June 7 and runs through August 2, meeting at 9:45 am in the James Park Room.
This summer, we will be studying The Corinthians Conversation with Dr. Elizabeth “Ebby” Arnold, Scholar in Residence at The Candler Foundry. This course invites us into the dynamic and often tense dialogue between the Apostle Paul and the early Christian community in Corinth. Rather than reading Corinthians as a one-sided message, we will explore it as an ongoing conversation shaped by questions, disagreements, and lived experience.
As we look closely at the challenges facing the Corinthian church, we will also consider how Paul continually calls them back to the bigger picture, what it means to embody Jesus together. The class will also explore the emotional depth of Paul’s relationship with a church in conflict and ask how these conversations can guide and support the church today as we navigate the realities of the 21st century.
Dr. Arnold will join us by Zoom on June 7 for an introduction to the series and again on August 2 for a wrap-up and Q&A.
Whether you are familiar with Corinthians or approaching it for the first time, this class offers a thoughtful way to engage scripture, reflect on the life of the church, and grow in faith together this summer. For questions or more info, contact Mark Curtis at mcurtis@fpcknox.org.
