Help Change a Life Through an English Language Learning class!

How can you provide life-changing help for another person without leaving the church? You can help refugees and immigrants learn English through an English Language Learner (ELL) class. If you are interested, join us at Worshipful Wednesday on September 16. Members of the Global Mission Committee will be available to answer questions and help you complete the online volunteer application.
Becoming functional in English is a critical step for people seeking employment and stability for their families in the United States. English skills can open doors to sustainable work, greater independence, and fuller participation in their new community.
In partnership with Bridge Refugee Services, First Presbyterian will soon sponsor ELL classes on Saturday mornings alongside our G.R.O.W. program. After becoming certified as a Bridge volunteer, you may assist in the classroom as English learners build practical language skills. No special teaching experience or training is required to serve as a class assistant.
We also need volunteers to provide childcare during the classes.
In the coming weeks, we will share stories from refugees and immigrants about how ELL classes have affected their lives. For now, look at the joy on the faces of graduates from a Bridge ELL class at UT Medical Center, and consider how you might help make that joy possible for someone else.
