Mission Market Coffee Price Increase Coming July 1 – Stock Up Now!

A Message from Equal Exchange

Dear First Presbyterian,

The commodity market for coffee has been at an unprecedented all-time high. The sustained and volatile high-priced market has affected our costs, prompting us to implement a price increase. How much are we talking? 10 oz -1 lb bags of Equal Exchange coffee will increase by $0.40-$1.00/lb.

The high coffee market is a result of a complex set of factors, including weather-related disruptions, harvest yields (current and predicted), and the new, and still evolving factor: US tariffs imposed on coffee-producing countries. We have now imported our first container of coffee that has had this meaningful tariff applied.

The coffee co-ops that these farmers own are a business model and social structure that help them access markets as a collective group and that also provide technical support, social support, and hope. But the volatility of high and changing markets (both have been true lately) can be a challenge for farmer co-ops.

You are our partner in this work, making a real difference to individual farming families, as well as to the mission-based businesses that make this fair trade possible.

The Mission Market is located on the second floor of First Presbyterian, near the Commons area, James Park Classroom, and the Fellowship Hall. You can shop on Sundays from 9:30-10:50 a.m., or other days by appointment. Contact: Colleen Shannon, bakhom@earthlink.net
