Putting Faith Into Action: Help Build Homes and Hope Through Habitat for Humanity

One of our local mission partners, Habitat for Humanity, is currently looking for volunteers, and this is a great opportunity for First Presbyterian to live out our calling to be “For Christ in the Heart of Knoxville.” We are also seeking some members who would be interested in helping lead and coordinate our congregation’s involvement in our next Habitat home build, continuing a long tradition of service and partnership in our community.

Habitat for Humanity works alongside families in our community to help provide safe, stable, affordable housing while strengthening neighborhoods across Knoxville. Through volunteers, partnerships, and community support, Habitat helps make homeownership possible for local families and creates lasting impact for parents and children alike.

In 2024, many members of First Presbyterian helped build a home for Dominique and her children, and it was an amazing experience for our congregation. Members of all ages worked side-by-side, building relationships while helping create a place of stability and hope for a local family. It was inspiring to see skilled builders, experienced volunteers, and first-time participants all working together to help make safe, stable, affordable housing possible for a local family.

As we look ahead, First Presbyterian is looking at partnering with Habitat for Humanity for another church-sponsored build in 2027. To make that happen, we are beginning to identify volunteers who would be interested in helping organize, coordinate, and lead this effort. This is a great opportunity for someone with construction experience (the leadership position), organizational skills, or a passion for local missions to help bring people together around the shared goal of providing safe, stable, affordable housing for families in our community.

We also hope new members and congregants of all ages will consider getting involved. No construction experience is required to volunteer, just a willingness to serve, learn, and work alongside others.
